That barber meetup in Portland changed my mind about razor work

Everyone was pushing these fancy straight razors for detailing but I saw a guy in a tiny booth just using a basic disposable shavette and his lineups were perfect. Have you ever seen a pro nail the details with the cheapest tool in the box?

That guy with the disposable shavette, was he using a specific blade brand or just the basic store brand ones...

Honestly I remember reading somewhere that the basic store brand blades actually work better for some people with shavettes because they're thinner and more flexible. I saw a barber shop review on YouTube saying they switched back to the generic ones after trying Feathers because the fancy blades were too rigid for the plastic handle. Ngl I've been using the generic ones myself and haven't had any issues with tugging or irritation. Tbh I think it's more about how you hold the angle than the actual blade brand.

Whoa, @fionat55, you mean that guy was using the basic store brand ones? That's wild, I figured he would've at least had some fancy Feather blades in there.

lol I actually saw a barber on TikTok saying the same thing. He was using those cheap store brand blades for years and said the Feathers were actually worse for his shavette because they were too stiff. Said he got more nicks with the expensive ones.
