Took me 6 months to realize I was holding my clippers backward

I was at a barber expo in Chicago last year and this older guy taps me on the shoulder during a demo. He goes 'son, you're using your clippers upside down for texturizing.' I had been flipping them over to blend the sides because I thought the blade was supposed to face away from the head. Turns out I was just making extra work for myself and probably screwing up my fades. Has anyone else had a basic tool habit that made them feel like an idiot when they found out?

Bought a nicer set and realized my old ones were entry level junk too.

My old ones were so bad I accidentally pulled the trigger on the wrong one and it stripped half the screw head. Had to use a pair of pliers to get the thing out. That was the day I swore off the $30 combo kits from the big box stores. Now I've got a set that actually stays in the case and doesn't rattle apart. Still embarrassed I went that long thinking it was just me who was bad at tool stuff.
