Unpopular opinion: I was wrong about the cheap clipper guards

For years I bought the $5 plastic guards because I figured a guard is a guard. A client in my chair last month had a fresh cut from another shop that was full of uneven lines. I checked his hair with my Wahl metal guards and found the cheap ones he'd been cut with were flexing, causing the blade to skip. I tossed all my plastic ones that day. Has anyone else seen this happen with the budget guard sets?

Ugh, that's such a frustrating find.

You ever check the plastic ones for cracks? I found a split along the seam on mine, right where it clips on. Makes sense it would flex and give you a bad cut. Switched to metal and won't go back.

Oh man, that explains SO much. I just thought my hands were getting super shaky or something. I've been fighting with my plastic one for weeks, getting these awful jagged cuts. Never even thought to look for a crack, I just kept blaming myself. I feel pretty dumb now. Guess I'm joining team metal, my dignity can't take another bad slice.
