Walked out of a $55 haircut in Portland because the barber rushed through it in 12 minutes
I paid for a 45 minute appointment at this trendy shop on Hawthorne and the guy had me out the door before my beard balm even had time to warm up. Clippers hit my neck without any cleanup with the trimmers, left my sideburns uneven, and barely touched my crown. When I pointed out the line near my ear he just said "it'll grow out" and walked to the register. This is the third time in the last two months I've left a local shop feeling like I paid for a factory assembly line instead of a craft. Has anyone else noticed more shops pushing speed over quality lately? How do you guys handle clients who want more precision without coming off as rude?

Did you ask for a specific time slot or just book a standard appointment? I've noticed a lot of these busy shops started hiring people who can cut fast but not well, thinking it's the same thing. They push you through like a car wash because they want to fit more heads in a day and make more money. If you go back to that shop, try asking for a senior stylist or someone who's been there longer than a year. The newer kids are usually trained to crank out cuts in ten minutes flat, while the older ones still take their time. Or just skip the trendy spots and find a one chair shop where the guy books one client an hour.

Ray nailed it with that AI scan question, I bet half these shops are using speed metrics from those apps as a selling point now. Same thing with everything lately feels like they optimized the joy right out of it just to squeeze an extra dollar.
