Friend said 'always put a deadline on your quote' but I thought it was pushy

My buddy Jake kept telling me to add a 7 day expiration to every estimate I send out. I ignored him for months because I figured clients would think I was being aggressive or desperate. Last week I had a $1,200 painting job quote sit open for 3 weeks until the guy ghosted me. Anyone else have experience with putting time limits on quotes, does it actually help or just annoy people?

Well that's just business sense, not being pushy!

Agreed with @jana509, it took me a while to see that though. I used to think any kind of follow up was just being annoying or pushy, especially when I was younger. But now I get that following up is just part of doing business, especially if someone asked you for something first. It's like, if you don't follow up, they might just forget or think you don't care about their time. So yeah, your mileage may vary, but I've come around on this one for sure.

Following up can easily come across as pushy, though.
