Got roasted by a barista in Portland for my contract rates
I was grabbing coffee at this shop on Hawthorne and telling my friend about how I negotiate with clients. The barista totally overheard and goes 'dude, you're leaving like $200 on the table every time you don't mention a late fee upfront.' She was right. Now I always put a 2% late fee clause in my contracts and it's saved me so many headaches. Has anyone else had a random stranger give you game-changing advice like that?

Yeah that barista was RIGHT. Late fees are a lifesaver.

...and honestly @kai839 I get it. Late fees keep things honest you know? Like if nobody paid late there would be no incentive to pay on time. I've definitely leaned on those fees to make rent before (not proud of it but it is what it is).

You ever try just waiving a late fee yourself? It goes a long way. People remember when you cut them a break.
