My landlord told me 'nobody pays more than $30 an hour for writing' and I'm second guessing everything

I was chatting with my building super after I delivered a package to his unit last Tuesday, and he said his cousin pays writers $15 an article and they line up for it. Now I'm sitting here wondering if my $50 an hour rate is scaring people off or if he's just from a different world. How do you even tell if your price is too high or too low when everyone around you gives different numbers?

$15 an article? That's like 20 cents a word, robbery.

Doesn't that basically just pay for the time it takes to find the topic and write the headline?

@william_craig7 $15 is what I spend on lunch, but they expect it to cover research, writing, and editing too. Might as well just hand me a coupon for a free sandwich and call it a day.
