My rate talk with a nonprofit in Portland went sideways fast

I offered them a discount because they said they had no budget and then found out they paid their director $90k a year. Has anyone else had to backtrack on pricing after the real numbers came out?

Straight up told them I needed to bump back up to my standard rate and explained exactly why. They actually respected the honesty once I laid out the numbers.
