Rant: My old 'just send a number' quote method backfired hard at a networking mixer
Used to toss out a rough price over coffee and hope for the best, but after losing a $1,200 gig to a guy who asked 3 questions first, I now write a one-page scope with my rate breakdown. Why are we still acting like haggling is a game of poker when the other side just wants to know what they're buying?

Man, that one-page scope is basically a cheat code. I once quoted a job and then accidentally forgot to include the actual service in the written breakdown, so the client thought they were paying for a handshake and a prayer.

Ever done a walkthrough with a list that long and realized halfway through you're basically reading a novel? The trick is to put the main service right at the top in bold, then list everything else below it as optional extras. That way, even if they skim, they can't miss what they're actually paying for. I also started adding a line that says "This quote includes X and nothing else" just to kill any gray area.
