Serious question, flat rate or hourly for a fence repair job?
I had a guy in Sacramento with 120 feet of chain link that needed new posts and mesh, and I couldn't decide between quoting him a flat $2,400 or billing hourly at $75. I went flat rate, thinking it would make him feel safer, and then the ground turned out to be full of tree roots so I ate about 6 extra hours and felt like a chump. Do you all stick to flat quotes no matter what, or do you tell people upfront that hidden stuff like roots or old concrete changes the price?
