Spent $200 on a contract lawyer for a tiny freelance gig and it actually paid off
Had a client try to slip in a clause saying I'd owe them triple damages if I missed any deadline by even a day. I almost signed it because I was desperate for the work. The lawyer caught it in 10 minutes and got it removed. Has anyone else had a tiny contract turn into a huge headache?

And that's such a good point about reputation, I never even thought about that angle. Like if another client did a quick background check or asked for past contracts, seeing something that insane would be a huge red flag that you're either desperate or don't know what you're doing (or both).

That "triple damages" clause you mentioned is wild (like, who thinks that's reasonable for a one person operation). But here's the thing nobody's talking about: even if you never had an issue, signing that could've scared off future clients if they found out you agreed to insane terms like that. It's crazy how one bad contract can haunt your reputation before you even start working.
