That one time a client quoted my own email back to me in negotiations
I was working with a small business owner in Austin last spring, and after I sent over my initial quote for a brand package he goes, "You said in paragraph three that you adjust pricing if the scope changes. Let's adjust this down." He literally pulled a line from my own proposal to knock $400 off the rate. I sat there for a second realizing I wrote that clause way too loose. Now I always tighten up how I phrase flexibility in my contracts. Has anyone else had their own words twisted on them?

That happened to me in July with a client in Charlotte. He screenshotted a line where I said "pricing is negotiable based on deliverables" and sent it back with a request to cut my fee by $200 for removing a round of revisions. I felt so dumb because I literally wrote myself into a corner. Now my contracts say "pricing is fixed for agreed scope" and I make them sign off on changes before I adjust anything. Its brutal when your own words come back to haunt you like that.

That line in paragraph three" is exactly the kind of thing my husband would pull on me about taking out the trash.
