The email thread that made me raise my rate on the spot

Last Thursday I sent a quote for a 6-week project, $4,800 flat. The guy came back asking for a 12-month payment plan. A payment plan for freelance work. I laughed out loud in my kitchen. Then I just wrote back and said no, but I can do 50% upfront and 50% at halfway. He agreed. Funny thing is I was about to undervalue myself again until he asked for something insane.

Is it just me, or does everyone notice that once someone asks for something completely unreasonable, it suddenly makes your normal price look like a bargain?
