Used to give rates over email but now I do it on the phone every time
I used to send a PDF with my pricing to every potential client who asked, especially when I was starting out in Dallas. But last fall, a guy named Marcus took my quote and shopped it to three other handypeople before coming back and asking me to match their lower number. Now I refuse to put a dollar amount in writing until we've talked on the phone for at least 10 minutes. Does anyone else find that clients respect your price more when they hear your voice first?

Honestly, I used to think email was fine too until my quotes got shopped around like yours did.

Can't believe people actually do that. You spend time putting a quote together and they just pass it around like it's nothing. How do you even handle that without getting super mad?

Talking first helped me avoid Marcus situations, but I still send a simple one-line price via email after the call.
