My 18 inch offset smoker cracked a weld on a 14 hour brisket and I want to know who to blame
Fired up the Franklin style offset at 4am Saturday for a 15 pound packer and noticed about 7 hours in that the firebox weld was weeping smoke right along the seam. By hour 11 it split open enough that my temps spiked to 340 and I had to finish the brisket wrapped in the kitchen oven like some kind of shameful casserole. This smoker cost me $1,200 at a shop in Wichita and I've run maybe 30 cooks through it, so I don't think I abused it. Anybody else had a seam go on them like this, and did you weld it yourself or make the maker fix it?
