My pit's firebox door hinge gave out right before a big cook last Friday

It happened when I was getting a load of post oak up to temp for a brisket. Has anyone else had to do a quick weld repair on site, or do you just keep a spare hinge kit handy?

Had that happen once. A quick MIG weld with some scrap steel bar as a brace got me through the weekend. Keep a small angle grinder handy to clean up the area first, it makes a huge difference.

My old Ford's seat bracket got the same scrap steel treatment, held for years.

Three years in and my buddy's truck had the weld crack right down the line of the old repair. That scrap steel is fine for a quick patch but you need a proper grade of metal that matches the bracket's thickness or it flexes differently and fails. I'd rather spend the extra hour finding a used bracket from a salvage yard than trust a weekend weld to hold a seat in a crash.

Man, used to think you needed a whole new part for that. But seeing @xena_hernandez98's fix totally changed my mind. A quick weld with some scrap metal is the real move for a last-minute save.
