DAE remember when we used to repack loose ball hubs by the dozen?
I was cleaning out the back room at my shop here in Spokane and found a box with 48 loose ball hubs in it, all from bikes I serviced back around 2006. Back then I'd repack maybe six or seven a week, cones, balls, grease, the whole deal, and it felt like half my job was just chasing pitted races on old Schwinns. Now I can't remember the last time a customer even asked about it, sealed bearings took over and most of these kids working the stand next to me have never touched a cone wrench. Funny thing is I actually miss it, you get a feel for drag and play in your hands that a sealed unit just doesn't teach you. I kept 10 of the best cups and tossed the rest, felt wrong throwing away all that work. So what do you all do with the old loose ball stuff, still fix it up or is it just wall art at this point?
