Debate: Grease every bearing surface on a BB install or just the threads?
I spent 5 years greasing the whole bottom bracket shell before install... then a shop veteran told me I was trapping water between the cups and the frame. Now I only grease the threads and it feels wrong but he's been doing it 30 years. Which side do you lean on and have you ever seen rust from greasing too much?

Tbh I greased my whole bottom bracket once and then spent an hour wondering if my frame was now a classified submarine habitat for moisture. Ngl that shop guy's point about trapped water makes sense but my inner mechanic still hates putting things together dry. At least if I rust it out I'll have a good excuse to finally buy that frame I've been eyeing.

Honestly, did that shop guy show you any actual rusted frames from over-greasing or was it just some old-school rule he swore by?
