Dropped $180 on a Park Tool PCS-10.2 stand and my $40 clone does the same job
Bought the nicer stand about 4 months ago thinking it would fix my wobble problem on bottom bracket overhauls. Turns out the wobble was my bench, not the stand. The cheap one I got off Marketplace in 2022 holds a 40 pound downhill frame just fine and folds flatter. Anyone got a real reason to keep the Park one or should I flip it back on Marketplace?
My PCS-10.2 sat in my garage for two years and I swore by it, told everyone the cast base was worth every penny over the flexy Amazon stuff. Then I helped a buddy swap a press-fit BB on his $45 stand and the whole job went exactly the same, no drama, frame stayed put the whole time. My wobble turned out to be a wobbly table leg too, and honestly a $3 shim fixed what a $180 stand couldn't. The Park still wins on the clamp if you're dealing with carbon or weird aero tubes, the jaws just grab better. But for a normal round-tube bike it's hard to say the extra $140 does anything. I'd keep it if you've got the space, flip it if you don't.
