Found a factory torque spec that was 15% off on a 2023 Trek Domane
Was rebuilding a carbon frame last week and decided to double check the factory torque specs for the seatpost binder bolt. Trek says 5.5 Nm. I checked it with my Park TW-5 and it clicked at 4.7 Nm. That's a 15% difference. That could crack the frame or strip the threads. Found an old service bulletin from 2021 on a forum that mentioned this exact issue on certain Domane models. Anyone else run into factory torque specs that are way off?

Did you check if that old service bulletin had a revision date? I wonder if Trek ever updated the spec or just left it wrong and hoped nobody noticed. What tool did you calibrate your Park against? I’ve had a TW-5 drift by like 0.3 Nm just from getting dropped once, so I’m curious if your reading is tool error or Trek really is that sloppy.

Hey, did your buddy's frame survive or what? A friend of mine had a similar scare on his Madone, the seatpost clamp was way tighter than spec from the factory and he got lucky it didn't crack.
