Pro tip: stop greasing every bolt on the bike, I wasted 2 years doing it
I used to slather Park Tool grease on every single bolt, stem, seatpost collar, all of it, because that's what the old guy at the shop in Tucson showed me in 2019. Then last month I had a customer's stem bolt back out on a test ride because I greased it and torqued it to spec, and the friction was gone. Turns out grease on a threaded fastener cuts your clamp load way more than people think, and dry or threadlocker is what most of these bolts want. Any of you figure out a rule for which fasteners get grease and which stay dry, or is it just feel at this point?
