Spent 2 hours chasing a ghost click on a customer's Trek and it was just the valve nut
I used to pull the cranks off every time a bike came in with a mystery click, which is dumb because half the time it's something way simpler. Last Tuesday a guy brought in his Trek Domane and I had it in the stand for about 90 minutes, checking chainring bolts, greasing the BB, even swapped the pedals, and the click was still there. My coworker Dana walked by and spun the front wheel, and the valve nut was loose, tapping the rim every rotation. I felt pretty silly, but honestly it made me rethink my whole diagnosis order. Now I check the cheap stuff first: valve nuts, bottle cage bolts, QR skewers, cleat bolts, seatpost clamp. Anyone else have a system for chasing down noises, or do you just go straight for the bottom bracket like I used to?
