That time a customer's bike made a noise like a dying goose
A guy brought his old mountain bike into the shop in Boulder last Tuesday, complaining of a loud screech. I put it on the stand, gave the pedals a spin, and this awful honking sound came from the bottom bracket. I pulled the cranks and found a dried-up pea lodged in the bearing cup, must have been there for years. We got it out, repacked the bearings, and the silence was golden. Ever pulled something truly weird out of a bike?

My buddy who works at a shop in Denver had a lady bring in a kid's bike with a crazy clicking noise. He took the whole rear wheel apart and found like three acorns jammed in the freewheel, just bouncing around in there. Kid must have been storing his snack collection in the hub or something lol. The sound was so loud and random, he said it took forever to even figure out where it was coming from.

Oh man, a pea? That's a new one. Worst I ever found was a whole piece of gravel stuck in a freehub body, grinding away. That screech is the worst sound, you just know it's gonna be something wild when you open it up.

I mean, that screech is the worst but honestly, a piece of gravel sounds pretty normal. The pea was just so weird and specific, like how did it even get in there.
