The shop owner in Tucson said never trust a used wheel, he was right
Back in 2019 I bought a cheap used wheelset off Craigslist for like $60. The owner at my local shop, this guy named Frank, told me to just replace the rims instead of messing with them. I thought he was just trying to sell me parts, so I ignored him and rode them for 3 months. The rear rim cracked right at the spoke bed during a group ride near the desert loop. Frank let me use his truing stand to see the damage up close, and yeah, the metal was totally fatigued. Has anyone else had a used part fail in a way that made you eat your words?
Used to blow off shop guys like Frank all the time, figured they just wanted my money. That cracked rim taught me faster than any YouTube video ever could, so now I listen first and buy used second.
