Everyone in my book club loved "The Midnight Library" but I couldn't stand it

I gave it 150 pages before I put it down last month, the whole premise felt like a cheesy after-school special to me. All those alternate lives just seemed like a way to avoid any real character growth or tough decisions. Am I missing something big here, or did anyone else think it was way too predictable?

lilyt23 your rage quit sounds like the smart move honestly. Was there one specific alternate life that was supposed to fix everything but just made it worse for you? Trying to figure out if the whole book is as shallow as it seems or if I gave up too early too.

Did my friend actually finish it or just rage quit after 50 pages like me?

lilyt23 nah, you didn't miss much after 50 pages, the whole thing just keeps trying to sell you on that same shallow "grass is greener" gimmick right to the end.
