Just realized our book club's silent member had the BEST point all along

We were arguing about the end of 'The Road' and if it was hopeful or not. I was sure it was just bleak, no question. But this quiet guy who never speaks up said the boy finding the family meant hope survives. It hit me HARD. I spent days thinking about it and now I see the whole book differently. It's changed how I listen in our talks. But now I'm worried we miss other good ideas if people don't speak. How do you get everyone to share in your clubs?

Back in my Austin book club, we used a talking stick. It was just a random object passed around, and you had to hold it to speak, but everyone got a turn. Also, we sometimes would go around the circle at the start and each share our first thought on the ending. It really helped the quiet folks, like your guy with The Road, have a safe space to talk. You might be surprised what comes out when you make sharing a normal part of the meetup.

Oh man... the talking stick thing actually works. Made things less awkward for everyone.
