Our book club just hit 50 straight meetings without a single person liking the main character.

50 straight meetings is wild lol. My group had a run like that with a string of unlikeable protagonists. We started picking books where the main character was just a normal person dealing with a weird situation, not some deeply flawed genius. It helped reset the mood a lot.

Oh man, that is such a good idea. My book club hit a wall last year with nothing but miserable rich people making bad choices. We finally read one about a guy who just finds a weird key, and it was like a breath of fresh air. Sometimes you just need a break from all the heavy drama and want to follow someone who isn't their own worst enemy.

Nah, I kind of like a messed up main character sometimes... makes the discussion way more interesting than just some regular person.
