Watched the same thing happen with my old hiking group. @davidshah is right, ranked choice sounds good but just makes a mess. It turns a simple choice into a math problem nobody asked for. The goal is to pick a book, not run an election. Taking turns is boring but it stops the fighting. Sometimes the simple way is the only way that works.

Been there! Our club tried ranked choice voting and it just made everyone mad. We went back to taking turns picking books.
