Our club picked a 900 page book and 4 people quit before chapter 3
When we voted in Infinite Jest at the January meeting in my friend Dana's basement, 11 people said yes and by the next Tuesday only 7 showed up. Honestly it made the talk better because the folks who stayed actually read the footnotes and we spent two hours on one scene, and Dana said it was her favorite meetup in 3 years of hosting. Is 4 quitters normal for a big pick, or should we put a page limit in our club rules?
Honestly we had almost the exact same thing happen with Gravity's Rainbow, started with 9 and ended with 5 by the end. The small group ended up being way more fun anyway cause everyone actually finished it. I'd say skip the page limit, the quitters kinda filter themselves out.
