Our club picked a 900 page book for December and half the group bailed by page 200. Was the book picker wrong or are the quitters right?

Ugh, 900 pages in December is brutal. I did that once with Infinite Jest, we voted on it in October and by the first meeting in November only three of us showed up. The rest just ghosted the group chat completely, didn't even say they were quitting. We ended up just drinking wine and talking about the book for like 20 minutes before switching to gossip, honestly it was the best meeting we ever had.
