Shoutout to my book club for proving me wrong on genre fiction
I used to be one of those people who only read literary fiction (you know, the kind that wins awards). My book club picked a sci-fi novel last month called The Space Between Worlds and I rolled my eyes so hard. But after reading it I realized genre stuff can have just as much depth and complex characters. Has anyone else's book club changed your mind about a type of book you thought you hated?

Rolled my eyes so hard" is basically my default reaction to anything my book club picks. They made me read a romance novel last year and I swore I'd rather stare at a wall. But yeah, I get it now. The pacing was actually good and the characters had real problems, not just fake drama. I still won't admit it to their faces though. Gotta keep up the pretentious image.

The wall comment was a strong move, I respect that level of commitment. It's wild how a good romance novel can sneak up on you like that, I had the same thing happen with a cozy mystery series my sister shoved at me.

Wait, did you actually roll your eyes so hard you saw your own brain, or was it just a regular eye roll? Because if it was the former, that's serious commitment to the pretentious thing. Also, "stare at a wall" is a weird threat, walls are pretty boring, you'd probably give up after ten minutes.
