Warning: My book club spent 40 minutes arguing about a character's name that was never in the book
Last Tuesday at our meeting in Denver, we were supposed to talk about The Great Gatsby, but somehow everyone got stuck on whether Daisy's daughter was named Pam or Pammy, and half the group swore it was a major plot point. I pulled out my copy and read the line out loud, and it turns out she is just called 'Pammy' once, and it has nothing to do with the story. This kind of thing keeps happening because people mix up the movie with the book, and then we waste half the night on stuff that does not matter. I get that we all love to debate, but can we please agree to check the text before going off for 20 minutes? Has anyone else had a club where a tiny detail like this took over the whole talk?
