Just realized my bullet journal doesn't need to be perfect after talking to my mom

She saw my messy weekly spread and said 'it's a tool, not a museum piece,' which finally made me stop stressing over every line. Anyone else have a simple rule that helped them use their bujo more?

Honestly, I have to disagree. If you let it get messy, you'll stop using it. My whole system falls apart if I don't keep my spreads clean and organized. That "tool not a museum" idea just gives an excuse for it to become a useless, scribbled-on notepad. The discipline of making it neat is what makes it work for me. Why even bother if you're not going to put in the effort to keep it right?

You're right @emma_jones, a totally messy book can get useless fast... but a little controlled chaos keeps it from feeling like homework. My trick is one messy page for quick notes, then I clean it up on the next page. That balance keeps me actually using the thing without the pressure.

Totally agree, my system dies without that neatness too.
