Showerthought: My bullet journal was a mess until I switched from a regular pen to a fineliner

For about six months I was using a standard ballpoint pen from the office supply drawer. My spreads looked smudged and the ink would bleed through the paper on my Leuchtturm. Last week I grabbed a pack of Pigma Micron 05s on a whim. The difference is crazy. No more ghosting, my lines are sharp, and my handwriting actually looks decent. Has anyone else found a simple tool change that made their whole system work better?

Totally get this. Switched from a cheap highlighter to mildliners and my whole weekly layout stopped looking like a toddler attacked it. The right pen is a total game changer.

Why waste money on fancy pens when a free ballpoint works fine?

Honestly Sarahscott, that free pen works until you try writing a full page with it. The hand cramp is real. A nicer pen just glides across the paper, so you can actually focus on your thoughts instead of fighting the tool. It's less about being fancy and more about not making a simple task feel like hard work. For some people, that smooth difference is totally worth a few extra bucks.

Three bucks for a pack of Microns. Not exactly a major investment. But honestly, I swapped my gel pen for a standard Bic once and my handwriting looked the same. @tessap97 says it's about fighting the tool. I get that. But I've seen people spend thirty bucks on a fountain pen and still write like a doctor's prescription. The real game changer for me was just slowing down my writing, not spending more money.
