Used to plan every single day in my bullet journal down to the hour, now I just jot down 3 priorities and let the rest happen
I started bullet journaling back in 2018 with this crazy detailed hourly schedule. Color coded highlighters, washi tape borders, the whole deal. But after about 6 months I realized I was spending more time setting up the page than actually doing stuff. Now I just open my notebook, write down my top 3 things for the day, and that's it. No fuss, no stress. What made you guys switch your style up? Was it a time thing or just got tired of the overhead?

it's like that thing with diets where you go all in on some complicated meal plan and then just end up eating cereal for dinner because you're burnt out. i think most of us eventually realize the simpler system wins because it actually survives contact with real life. the perfect setup means nothing if you stop showing up to use it.

Doesn't this apply to EVERYTHING though, not just productivity stuff? I've noticed this pattern with hobbies too, people buy all the expensive gear for camping or photography before they even know if they'll like it. Then they use it twice and it sits in the garage forever. Or with learning instruments, everyone wants the fanciest guitar but you can make Amazing music on a cheap one if you actually practice every day. The whole "go big or go home" mindset seems to fool us into thinking the tools matter more than just showing up and doing the work. But the people who actually get good at something are the ones who just START with whatever they have and keep it simple until they outgrow it.

Yeah exactly, the best system is the one boring enough you'll actually stick with it every day lol.
