Finally got paid after a client ghosted me for a $900 logo job
This guy hired me for a logo, paid half up front, then went silent after I sent the first draft. I sent invoices for the other $450 every week for two months with no reply. Yesterday I got a random payment notification, no email or anything. Has anyone else had a client just pop up and pay after that long?

Oh man, that's the best kind of surprise. I've had that happen before, and I'd already written the invoice off in my head as a total loss. It's like finding a crumpled twenty in an old jacket pocket, except the jacket was actively avoiding you for two months. Makes you wonder if they finally got a guilty conscience or just found their password.

That jacket comparison is perfect. But honestly, I bet it's way less dramatic than guilt or a lost password. Sometimes it's just that their own client finally paid them, so the cash flow chain unclogs and my invoice suddenly pops out. It's all just a domino effect of someone else being late.

There's also the chance that the person who owes you money is just waiting on one final piece of information from you, like a W9 or updated bank details, and they're too embarrassed to ask for it again. They've got the invoice open in a tab, it just needs that last click to go through. So sometimes the delay is actually on our end, not theirs.

My old boss at a print shop had a theory about this. He said late payments often get stuck in a company's approval system when one manager goes on vacation. The invoice just sits in their digital inbox for weeks. Then they come back, clear their backlog, and it finally processes. It's less about money and more about someone being out of the office.
