Had a client rewrite my entire design brief after I already started

Last month I took on a logo project for a local coffee shop in Cleveland, and we agreed on a clean modern look with earth tones. Two weeks in, the owner showed up with 15 pages of handwritten changes that turned it into a cartoon mascot with neon colors. How do you even plan for someone who completely changes the scope after you've already put in the hours?

Signed a kill fee clause after a client pulled that on me once.

Started adding a 50% non-refundable deposit on projects under $5k and it cut the flaky clients way down. That kill fee saved me from a few more waste-of-time situations.
