I finally started charging a deposit after a client ghosted me for a month

I used to just send an invoice after finishing a website, thinking it was more professional. Then a client in Tampa approved the final design, I launched the site, and they just stopped replying for over 30 days. I had to send three follow-up emails before they paid the $1,500. Now I get 50% up front before I even open a design file. Has anyone else had to switch to deposits because of a non-payer?

Totally get switching to deposits after that. I'd take it even further with a clear contract that spells out payment dates. Like, 50% to start, 25% after design approval, final 25% before launch. That way if someone ghosts at the design stage, you're still paid for the work up to that point. It just stops the whole project from stalling over one late payment.

What happens when a client approves the design but then drags their feet on the launch? Does that final payment just sit in limbo forever.

Sandragrant's payment schedule is smart. A contract with clear milestones saved me from chasing clients for final payment.

Wait, isn't that what Sandragrant just said?
