Lady at the hardware store in Boise told me to always get a deposit before ordering materials, and I learned the hard way
I was picking up paint at a store in Boise last Friday and overheard this older lady telling a young guy to never order materials without a deposit. I kind of brushed it off because I had been doing this 7 years with no problems. Then two weeks later a homeowner had me order $1,400 worth of custom tile and cabinets, and when I showed up to install she had changed her mind and refused to pay for any of it. Now I'm stuck with materials I can't return and a bill I'm eating myself. How do you all handle deposits for special order stuff, flat percentage or just materials upfront?
