Paid $150 for a contract template and it saved me from a $4,000 nightmare client
I do freelance web design and got burned badly last fall by a client who kept adding pages to the project and then refused to pay for the extras. After that mess I spent $150 on a lawyer made contract template online, which felt dumb at the time since I only make about $2,200 a month from this. Fast forward to February, a new client signed it, then tried to demand a full site rebuild for the same flat fee and got nasty when I said no. I pointed at the scope clause and the late fee clause, and they paid the original invoice plus $300 in late fees without another word. That template basically paid for itself 28 times over in one phone call. Has anyone tried those month to month legal plans instead, or is the one time template enough?
