The framing contractor who redlined every change order changed my whole approach
I used to think itemized change orders were just busywork until a builder tacked on $2,400 for moving three windows after the rough-in was done... now I won't let a single nail go in without a signed paper trail. How do you handle clients who expect free revisions after the scope is locked?

It's like they think "scope creep" is just a suggestion... I had a client who wanted me to change all the window casings after they saw a Pinterest board mid-project. Cost them an extra $900 for materials alone, and they acted shocked I didn't just eat it. Now I make them initial every single line on the contract at the kickoff meeting, even the boring stuff like "if you change your mind after framing, it's a new ticket". Saves so much drama later, trust me.

Initialing every line at the kickoff" is exactly what I started doing too. @michael803 at least you got to move plumbing, I had a lady ask me to add a whole second story window after the roof was on. She saw it in a magazine and acted like I could just cut a hole real quick. People really think we're out here making houses out of play-doh. The contract signing is just the beginning of the "are you serious" conversations.
