Hit 50 client referrals in one year and it totally surprised me
I was looking back at my numbers from last year and realized I got 50 referrals from existing clients. That was way more than I expected since I don't really ask for them directly. It started when I finished a big project for a real estate agency in Austin back in March, and the owner just told a friend who needed the same thing. After that it was like a chain reaction where one client would pass my name along without me even knowing. The milestone mattered because it showed me that doing good work and being easy to work with is way better than any sales pitch I could write. I think it also helped that I always send a quick follow-up email after a project wraps up, just checking in. Has anyone else tracked this kind of thing and found a surprise number? I'm curious if it's normal or if I just got lucky.

Got 50 referrals once too, turns out they just felt bad for my clunky sales attempts.

Doesn't that kind of prove that most people are nicer than we give them credit for? I've noticed this pattern at the grocery store where someone will let you cut in line because you're holding one item and they see you fumbling with your wallet. Or at work, when a coworker offers to help with a project even though you can tell they're busy. It's like people can sense when you're trying your best but struggling, so they throw you a bone. The problem is we take it as pity instead of just a little human kindness. Sometimes a referral is just someone wanting to see you win, not a judgement on your sales skills.
