My client kept "forgetting" to send the files I needed, so I waited 3 weeks for a project that should've taken 2 days
I had a client in Austin who needed a logo plus a 6-page site refresh, and she kept saying she would send the brand files "tomorrow" every single time I followed up. Three weeks went by with me checking in twice a week and getting nothing but vague replies, and I eventually just built the whole thing from scratch using a screenshot she texted me. How do you all handle clients who slow-roll you on stuff you can't move without, do you set a hard cutoff date or just bill them for the waiting time?
Honestly a buddy of mine went through almost the exact same thing last year, client sat on logos and fonts for a month while he twiddled his thumbs. What he ended up doing was putting a line in his contract that says work starts when the files land in his inbox, not when the deposit clears. So the clock only starts once he has what he needs, and if the client drags, the deadline slides with it. He also bills a small "waiting fee" after two weeks of no files, nothing crazy but enough that people suddenly find that folder real quick. Tbh the hard cutoff thing works too, you just have to actually stick to it or they learn they can slow walk you forever.
