TIL a client coordinator in Denver gave me bad advice about sending estimates, cost me a $4,500 job
Back in March this client coordinator I know from a Denver networking group swore up and down that I should send estimates within 24 hours or clients walk, so I rushed one out for a $4,500 repaint without walking the whole property first. Client signed the next morning, I got out there and found rot behind two window frames plus a ceiling that needed way more prep, so I had to either eat $900 or go back on my number and look like an amateur. Has anyone else had a coordinator push a hard deadline on you that backfired, and how do you push back without burning the relationship?
Sympathize with you on that one, eating $900 or looking bad to the client is a lose lose. I got pushed into the same kind of rush on a deck job once and missed that half the boards were soft, ended up stuck covering extra material out of my own pocket. Honestly that 24 hour rule sounds like it was made for small stuff, not a $4,500 repaint where you gotta walk the whole place first. I'd just tell the coordinator straight up that you need to see the full property before you can put a real number down, and if that costs you the job then it wasn't a job worth losing money on.
