A shop owner in Reno showed me her "bad client" folder and I almost laughed at the size of it
I stopped in a print shop in Reno last month to pick up some flyers and the owner pulled out a folder labeled "no thanks" that was maybe 4 inches thick. She said every page in it was a quote or email from someone who haggled, ghosted, or wanted 3 rounds of free changes, and she keeps it just to remind herself to say no faster. Do you all keep any kind of list like that, or do you just cut people loose and forget them?
A list like that is way more useful than people give it credit for. My old boss had a running doc on his computer called "the wall" and every time a job went bad he'd paste the last email in there with a note like "wanted 6 logos for $50" or "called me a crook after I gave a refund." Half the time these folks come back around a year later acting real friendly like nothing happened, and you can check the doc before you waste an hour on a quote. The folder also saves you from yourself, because in the moment you always want to give people the benefit of the doubt. Past you already did that and wrote down how it went.
