Client asked for a full site redesign, then ghosted me after I sent the mockups
A new client hired me for a website redesign, paid a $500 deposit, and was super responsive for two weeks. I sent over three detailed mockups last Monday and asked for feedback. I haven't heard a single word since, no replies to emails or calls. I spent about 25 hours on this. Has anyone had a client just vanish after you deliver the work they asked for? What's the next move here?

Send a final invoice now.

Actually, sending a final invoice right away might backfire. If a client is already freezing up, that piece of paper can make them panic more. Sometimes you need a softer check-in first, like asking if they have any last questions before you wrap things up.

I used to send the invoice the second the work was done, no questions asked. Lost a good client over it last year because they felt rushed. Now I send a quick email asking if they need any final tweaks before I close the project file. That little pause gives them space to breathe and almost always gets a faster payment.

My neighbor's contractor said this happens all the time after big proposals. People get scared by the finality of a real plan and just freeze up. It's a weird human thing, not just a client thing.
