Fired a guy at 4pm Friday and landed a better one by Monday morning
So this happened 3 weeks ago and I'm still kind of shocked it worked out. My worst client, the one who called me at 11pm about a password reset on a Sunday, decided to "go in a different direction" and I got the news at 4pm on a Friday. I figured I'd be sweating rent for at least a month. Instead I posted in a local Facebook group that same night, got 6 replies by Saturday, and by Monday at 9am I had a new client paying $1,200 a month on a 6 month deal, which is $400 more than the old guy. The funny part is the new client found me because the old one left a bad review that mentioned my name, so it kind of backfired on him. The lesson isn't "stay positive" or whatever, it's that one bad apple can make you think the whole tree is rotten when honestly it's just one apple. What's the fastest you've ever replaced a nightmare client after they dropped you?
Idk if anyone else noticed but the bad review doing the marketing for you is kind of the wildest part, like the guy basically paid you a $400 raise on his way out. Maybe the real move is asking yourself if a client would leave a review that helps or hurts you before you even take them on.
