Hit 25 client referrals in one year and it messed with my head

I run a small electrical shop and last year I counted 25 referrals from a single real estate agent in Charlotte. That number surprised me because I figured word of mouth was just a slow trickle, not a flood. But then I realized she was sending me every flip house she had, and I was undervaluing my quotes just to keep her happy. Now I'm stuck doing discount work for a pipeline that could dry up tomorrow, has anyone else seen a big milestone turn into a trap like that?

Man that hits hard! It's wild how something that looks like a win can quietly turn into a cage. I've seen this same pattern everywhere, not just with clients. It's like when you get a gym buddy who's way more serious than you, so you start pushing harder than you want, just to keep up, and then you dread going. Or when a friend always picks the expensive restaurant and you keep saying yes until you're broke and resentful. The real trap is that the good thing blinds you to the cost. You're not really getting referrals, you're renting your time and craft to one person's schedule. Once you spot that, you can rework your prices and set some ground rules so the work feeds you, not just feeds the pipeline.
