Saw a regular's roof go from solid to sagging in 4 months, homeowner never called me

I drove past a house I quoted last spring and noticed the ridge line dipping between the chimney and the back dormer, so I pulled over and knocked, turns out they hired some guy off Facebook for half my price and he'd stripped the old decking instead of replacing it, now they're looking at $14k in rafter work and asking if I can fix it next week, has anyone else walked a job where the cheap bid left structural damage that took months to show up?

Had a similar one last year with a deck addition, homeowner went with a guy who underbid by a lot and skipped the footing inspection. Three months later the whole thing pulled away from the house about two inches. I ended up walking them through what needed to happen and gave them a fixed price, not an estimate, so they knew the worst case up front. They paid for the permit corrections and I did the work in stages so they could breathe financially. It sucks when someone else's cheap job becomes your headache, but being straight about the timeline and cost made it a lot easier for them to say yes.
