The client who wanted a 'creative interpretation' of their logo
Had a gig last Tuesday where a bakery owner in Akron asked me to redesign their logo but said 'don't just copy the old one, get creative.' I sent over three fresh concepts, and they replied with a 4-page PDF of complaints about how none matched their old logo exactly. They wanted the same colors, same font, same drawing, but 'different.' After two more rounds of them circling their original logo with red pen marks, I finally just asked if they wanted me to trace it and change one letter. They said yes, and that was the whole job, 40 bucks and 3 hours of my life gone. Has anyone else had a client who basically wanted a copy but called it a 'makeover'?

Heard a story once about a guy who asked for a "modern update" and then got mad when the designer didn't keep the exact same clip art. Some people just want you to say you did something new so they feel better about paying for it.
